Agents from the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) followed up on intelligence information and were able to seize over a ton of cocaine after a pursuit and gun battle that led to the arrest of seven men and women, including Marcelino Cuevas Feliz and Julio Herrera Marquez.
DNCD chief Rolando Rosado Mateo presented the cocaine shipment to the media yesterday afternoon, Sunday 21 October, and said that the packages of drugs had arrived by sea from South America for shipment to Europe. Some of the drugs were found at a house belonging to Julio Herrera Marquez in the upscale La Castellana neighborhood in Santo Domingo.
The DNCD said that the group of drug traffickers under arrest yesterday is the same one that received a shipment of 777kgs of cocaine in the south that was later seized in the Caucedo Multi-Modal Port at the end of last August before it was shipped to Rotterdam, Holland.
“On this opportunity the intelligence information was so precise that a good part of the criminal structure is under arrest and the brains behind it are about to fall into the hands of this agency and the Justice Department and be sent to trial for violating Law 50-88,” said the DNCD.
Officers from the Information and Joint Coordination Center (CICC) led by General Valentin Rosado Vicioso detected the cargo when it entered the country and followed the pickup vehicle that transported it, leading to the seizure of the cocaine.
