The Dominican Republic has received a firearms marking machine from the Organization of American States (OAS) as part of a program called “Promoting Firearms Marking in Latin America and the Caribbean”, in order to tackle the growing problem of illicit arms trafficking. The program has already been implemented in 25 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The donation from the United States government was presented during a ceremony in Santo Domingo, together with a computer to facilitate the record keeping of marked firearms.
The OAS signed a firearms marking agreement with the Dominican Republic in April.
