What happened to Trujillo’s fortune?

Talking to journalists at a celebration of the 121st anniversary of the birth of the dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, his grandson, Ramfis Dominguez Trujillo, said that his foundation was working to discover what had happened to his grandfather’s fortune and he accused the State of taking it and handing it over to various people.

Speaking at a Santo Domingo restaurant on Wednesday, 24 October, Ramfis Trujillo said that the Dominican Republic had distorted history and only spoke of the negative things his grandfather had done and not about all the government works and development. He said that people had a right to know the great things he had achieved and that it was the most fruitful period in the country’s entire history.

He continued by saying that the country’s current democratic system had left far more people dead than during his grandfather’s time, with 18,623 people killed between 2000 and 2009.

Also at the celebration were Lisette Gancedo, Grace Alice Guerrero and Luis Ruiz Trujillo, and young people shouting, “long live the Boss. Long live Trujillo.”
