4% of GDP for education without more taxes

The president of Action for Education (Educa) says that the government could provide 4% of GDP for the education sector without increasing taxes. Elena Viyella said that countries like Chile plan to allocate 10% for education. She was speaking at the start of an international workshop, “Learning 2012: Talent, Innovation and Commitment to Education that is taking place at the Hotel V Centenario in Santo Domingo. She said international academics and experts would share their experiences and notes on new learning models that are being applied abroad. One of the speakers is Blanca Ovelar de Duarte, a former Minister of Education of Paraguay who was presidential candidate in 2008.
