The Council of the Justice Department has dismissed Luisa Rosa Garcia Polanco, a judge from Santiago who is accused of serious misconduct while carrying out her duties by failing to convict certain people, including drug trafficking and murder suspects.
The Council said that there were seven resolutions which they considered wrong including not imposing remand on several people accused of serious crimes like drug trafficking, robbery, criminal association, arms possession, using fake currency and wounding. They highlighted the cases of Franklin del Rosario Baez, who only had to present himself in court twice a month despite being accused of the murder of Jeffry Fernandez Rodriguez Mendez, and of Santiago de Jesus Cabrera Roman, Octavio de Jesus Aracena Lopez, Jose de Jesus Ceballos, Lorenzo Alberto Batista Vargas and Darwin Emilio Munoz Dilone, who were allowed to go free even though they were accused of breaking the Law on Drugs 50-88.
She also released Renso Etanislao Urena Collado, accused of robbery and criminal association, Luis Manuel Leon, criminal association and forgery of public records, Lorenzo Alberto Batista Vargas, aggravated robbery and Jose Miguel Rosa Polanco, accused of violence against a woman.
The Council maintained that by letting all of them free she did not carry out her job correctly, causing harm not only to society but also to the victims.
