The Ministry of Education’s School Structure Maintenance Department says that Hurricane Sandy affected 140 schools around the country, with collapsed walls, damage to electrics and bathrooms, and computers not working in the technological centers.
The Ministry says that the Emergency Operations Center (COE) is ensuring that the schools being used as shelters for 856 people affected by the floods caused by Sandy can return to normal use within three days. They include El Rosario in Azua, Suiza (El Manguito) in Santo Domingo North, and La Pituca Flores in las Canitas and El Tunel in the Capotillo area, both in the National District, as well as the school in Batey 3 in Bahoruco and Batey San Juan in Monte Plata, Bartolome Olegario Perez in Azua and Villa Sombrero in Bani.
The Education Ministry urged teachers and students to get back to school on Monday, 30 October, as long as the conditions were suitable.
