Former DNCD operations head to be extradited

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito and National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) chief General Rolando Rosado Mateo have announced at a press conference that former Navy Colonel Francisco Antonio Hiraldo Guerrero, who was operations head of the DNCD from 2006 to 2008, had been captured and has agreed to voluntary extradition to the United States. He is accused of drug trafficking and of having close ties to the network of Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo, (El Don), who was tried in a New York court after his arrest in 2004.

They said that the charges related to drug dealing offences carried out between 2001 and 2009, and that the extradition order states that Hiraldo Guerrero together with three others, who have already been found guilty of the charges, allowed large shipments of cocaine from more than one criminal organization to transit through the country on their way to the United States.

Apparently both the quantity of drugs involved and the profits were very high, with one witness stating that there were at least 25 trips a year during the period 2007-2009, with on average 400 kilograms of cocaine per trip, representing a profit of US$100,000 per journey.
