The Central Bank has decided to maintain the Monetary Policy Interest Rate at 5% per annum and the Lombard Rate at 7% p.a.
The decision was taken as the latest inflation projections show that inflation will be below the lower limit established by the Monetary Program for 2012 and will be around 5% plus or minus 1% for 2013. The CB said that in September the inflation rate was 2.6%, with the underlying rate at 3.53 %.
The bank said that looking at the external context, the latest projections by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Economic Committee confirm that the developed nations are recovering slowly but at the same time the emerging economies are experiencing a slowdown and that in the short term they are anticipating a US dollar depreciation.
As far as the domestic market is concerned, internal demand and production continue to look positive although still below their potential. The bank informed that during the period January to September, economic activity grew 3.9% in real terms.
