On Sunday 4 November, President Danilo Medina made a surprise visit to Cabarete, Puerto Plata where he visited the Kite Beach Hotel, the Sea Wind complex at Punta Goleta and the baseball field at La Cienaga. His visit coincided with the celebration of the DR Jazz Festival in Cabarete.
The news of his presence spread like wildfire among local authorities and residents.
The President met with Michel Gay-Crossier, president of the Cabarete Development Association (ADECA) who described the problems that businesses were experiencing with the local municipal authorities, and the area’s development needs.
The mayor of Cabarete, Gabriel Antonio Mora (Canoa) and his predecessor Eddy Morfe have been accused by ADECA of stealing more than RD$102 million between 2004 and 2012. Adeca is requested he be suspended from his duties as head of the Municipal Board of Cabarete until the case is finalized in court. Cabarete Noticias reports on several of the pending cases. He also spoke to businessmen Silvio Raigorosky and Thomas Callender, owner and manager of the Kite Beach hotel, as reported in El Faro.
Medina then went on to the Sea Wind complex where he talked to project manager Jose Espejo, and visited one of the apartments.
