After speculation as to whether President Danilo Medina would go ahead with his plan to travel to Spain later today, Tuesday 13 November to attend the XXII Ibero-American Summit, the Presidency has announced that his trip was being postponed. Dominican Presidents have always attended these events.
Protests at home against the recently passed Fiscal Reform Law and the announcement yesterday, Monday 12 November that former President Leonel Fernandez would address the nation on economic matters had the media abuzz as to whether it would be wise for Medina to be absent when Fernandez addressed the nation. Former First Lady Margarita Cedeno is the Vice President of the Republic.
Medina will now travel to Spain on Wednesday 14 November at 6:15pm to attend the summit that takes place in Cadiz on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 November. The Minister of Economy Temistocles Montas, Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo, Minister of Foreign Relations Carlos Morales Troncoso will be accompanying President Medina, who is scheduled to return on Sunday on board an Air Europa flight arriving at 7:55pm.
Medina will also be meeting with Dominican community leaders in Spain.
