The Chief of the National Police reported yesterday, Tuesday 13 November, that police officers attached to the Central Bureau for Criminal Investigations (Dicrim), arrested four of eight suspects, including a driver, in relation to the robbery of an armored truck belonging to a security company on the highway between San Pedro de Macoris and Santo Domingo last week. He said that the arrested men were Amauris Alejandro Cuevas (the truck driver), Rafael Batista Lara (Julio), Juan Carlos Paniagua and Marcial Maniagua, who were found with evidence from the robbery. The incident occurred on the Autovia del Este on 9 November.
The men who were arrested and several others still at large are said to have made off with eight security bags containing RD$64 million. The Police made it clear that they recovered RD$168,000 during one of the searches carried out in the Villa Liberacion sector in Santo Domingo East, where a woman identified only as “Sinelis” was living. This money was said to belong to Juan Carlos, one of those arrested for taking part in the robbery. The Police said that they are after the other four suspects and will arrest them and recover the missing money.
