A fire yesterday, Wednesday 14 November caused damage on the second floor of National Supermarket at la Lope de Vega in the Naco neighborhood in Santo Domingo.
According to Vicky Malla, Social and Corporate Affairs manager at National, the fire, which started at 1:30pm, was apparently caused by a short circuit in one of the four fridges where food was kept. The fire brigade brought the blaze under control in less than half an hour but the volume of smoke caused the employees and clients to leave.
Malla said that at the moment they have no idea of how much was lost but that the fire did not affect the first floor of the store.
