The director of the Institute of Forensic Pathology, Santos Jimenez Paez, has confirmed that a woman’s body found in Santo Domingo’s Mirador del Norte Park is 40-year old Lourdes Valenzuela, a domestic employee who was working at the house where an 83-year old woman Teresa Batista de Vicioso, a retired pharmacist and her other maid, Josefina Suero Contreras were found dead yesterday, Wednesday 14 November. Also injured was 80-year old Jose Vicioso, a doctor who practiced in Puerto Rico prior to returning to the Dominican Republic. The three were found by their daughter when visiting her parents early in the morning at their home at Jose Brea Pena on the corner of Maximo Aviles Blonda Street in the Evaristo Morales neighborhood.
Valenzuela had apparently left to go to San Juan de la Maguana but never arrived. She worked in the house where the other victims were found, and would go to San Juan on her days off. A city employee who was cleaning the area found Valenzuela’s body in the bushes near gate No. 6 of the Parque Mirador Norte in Villa Mella. Her face was covered with gray adhesive tape in the same way as the other women. The coroner said she asphyxiated.
Jose Vicioso, who survived the ordeal, said that three men and a woman tied them up and beat them. The motive is suspected to have been the robbery of RD$70 million the couple had received for a recent real estate sale. The coroner said that the victims had been dead for 10-12 hours and showed signs of violence. The Police investigations director, Brigade General Ney Aldrin Bautista said that the perpetrators entered without forcing the door. The house was found in great disarray. The murders are suspected to have been committed around 10pm and the killers are thought to be persons known by the family.
Jimenez Paez said that pathologists are continuing to investigate the crime, but so far the police have no leads as to who was responsible.
