Police Chief calls for fugitive to surrender

Chief of the National Police Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez has issued a call for the fugitive Juan Antonio Guzman Moreta to give himself up to the authorities or face the consequences. Guzman Moreta is said to be the man who fled the scene of an armed robbery at the Cibao Savings and Loan Association branch with a pouch containing RD$1.7 million in cash. Polanco Gomez said that a Criminal Investigations team was searching for the accused robber. The Police Chief was speaking to Listin Diario reporters after attending a Mass in remembrance of traffic accident victims. He said that the nation could not allow three or four individuals to walk into a bank in broad daylight and rob it, adding that he hoped that the long arm of the law would apply the correct sanctions on these men in order to discourage others from committing the same crime.

There have been five armed robberies in the Dominican Republic so far this month, November 2012.
