Four people have died in Santiago over the last 36 hours due to the heavy rains.
Wandy Nunez Campo, 23 and Amerly Rodriguez, 3 were discovered in the Yaque del Norte river near the Palace of Justice, after being swept away by the waters of the drainage canal in Yaguita de Pastor.
Francisco Arias, Deputy Director of the Santiago Civil Defense said that a 24-year old man, Angel Ramon Rosario Cruz, who was also washed away by the same drainage canal on Sunday night, was killed after he grabbed hold of a cable and was electrocuted.
In addition, Jesus Moran drowned in the Janiquito River in Janico.
Several areas of Santiago were flooded, including Pekin, La Herradura, Gurabo, Hoyo de Bartola, Puchula, Conani, Las Cayenas, San Lorenzo, Yaguita de Pastor, La Javilla and Canada de Gurabito after the Guarabo River overflowed and flooded several houses along its banks. There was also flood damage to several houses in La Herradura.
According to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) the rains are caused by a front in the east of the country which will continue to bring rain and thunderstorms over the northeast, southeast, central mountain area and the border.
