Plot to murder state prosecutor

The authorities have uncovered an alleged plot to murder the director of the Extradition Department of the Attorney General’s office, Gisela Cueto, supposedly devised by the named head of the Cibao Cartel, Ivan Miguel Tineo Paulino, who is currently appealing against an extradition request made by the United States authorities.

Cueto gave details of the supposed plot, saying that the accused had hired four people, with M-16 rifles, around a hundred bullets, and dressed as policemen, who were to stop her at a checkpoint and kill her.

She said that the details of the plot had been received from at least three informers, and that Tineo Paulino apparently thought that her death would prevent his extradition.

As soon as she found out about the plan she took the necessary measures to protect her safety, but said that she was not afraid, although she found it surprising as in all her 36 years of service, with all the extraditions she had handled, she had never been threatened.

Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito said that this would not stop them from doing their jobs, whether against drug trafficking or organized crime. He said that they were not afraid and were totally committed to what had to be done

Ivan Miguel Tineo denied the allegations, saying that he would accept voluntary extradition if the public prosecutors drop the charges against him for an incident in Samana. He is wanted in the US for allegedly possessing 157 kilos of cocaine on a boat he owned there.
