President helps farmers

Yesterday, Monday 19 November, President Danilo Medina handed over RD$20 million to 162 ginger farmer families in Monte Plata province and announced that next month or in January he would give another RD$40 million to reach another 300 farmers. The farmers would receive RD$50,000 per tarea (627 square meters).

The President was in Bayaguana, in Monte Plata province where he also pledged to give RD$12 million to cacao farmers to help them increase their production.

Medina said that he was fulfilling part of his campaign promise to help people in rural areas and that he had already given RD$1 billion to the Agriculture Bank for credit to farmers and that he would have another RD$1 billion available in February.

President Medina was accompanied by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ramon Peralta, Agriculture Minister Luis R. Rodriguez, the administrator of the Agriculture Bank, Angel Estevez and the director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), Radhames Valenzuela. Also present were cacao, coffee and ginger farmers from Yamasa, Esperalvillo, Bayaguana and Monte Plata.
