The Supreme Court of Justice has appointed two judges to examine the proposal to open corruption cases involving senator Felix Bautista. The case file was closed by Hotoniel Bonilla, director of the Department for Administration Corruption (DPCA) on 15 August, one day before the end of President Leonel Fernandez’s eight-year term.
The president of the Supreme Court of Justice Mariano German Mejia appointed judge Esther Agelan Casasnovas to review whether the order to shelve the casefile for corruption in office against senator Felix Bautista (PLD-San Juan de la Maguana) can be revoked. The case had been presented by the PRD opposition party. Bautista is best known for his long term as director of the Supervisory Office of Public Works of the Presidency, and for the large budgets he managed and how the original cost estimates were greatly increased by the time the works were completed.
Cases against senators need to be heard by the Supreme Court of Justice.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also appointed judge Victor Jose Castellanos to study a complaint made by the Dominican Alliance Against Corruption (Adoco) and the National Convergence of Lawyers (Cona).
