Margarita tops poll; Danilo second

Some 34% of the adult Dominican population believes that in the first months of his administration President Danilo Medina has done well, while 47% grade his management as “regular” and 17% describe it as “bad.”

A Penn, Schoen & Berland poll, sponsored by the “Lupa sin Trabas” magazine and Noticias SIN, a TV news channel, and reported in Diario Libre and other papers, also assessed several other national politicians.

Vice President Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez has the highest approval, with a rating of 60% and a rejection percentage of 23%, followed by Danilo Medina with 54% approval rating and a 24% rejection rate. Hipolito Mejia and Guillermo Moreno are tied with 31% approval ratings but with different rejection percentages. Mejia has a rejection rate of 52% while Moreno has 43%.

Former President Leonel Fernandez has a 29% approval rating, down from 43% in April 2012. Former President Hipolito Mejia’s approval declined from 43% in April to the 31% at present. Mejia’s former running mate Luis Abinader has a 25% approval and 51% rejection rate. Amable Aristy Castro has 23% in favor and 51% against. Eduardo Estrella has a 20% approval and a 45% rejection rating and Hatuey De Camps only has a 9% approval rating and 68% unfavorable rating.

The poll was carried out 17-25 October 2012 and has a margin of error of 3%.

The results of this study will be published in today’s edition of La Lupa Sin Trabas magazine, 21 November 2012. When those surveyed were asked if the Dominican Republic was going down the wrong road, 70% said “yes” against 29% who said that the nation was headed in the right direction.
