March against violence against women

Yesterday, Wednesday 21 November, for the fourth year running, hundreds of people marched from Mirador Sur Park in Santo Domingo to the Public Prosecutor’s office under the banner of “Zero Tolerance for Violence against Women.”

The marchers were led by Vice President Margarita Cedeno, First Lady Candy Montilla, Minister for Women Alejandrina German and the Attorney General, Francisco Dominguez Brito.

Alejandrina German said that men needed to promise to protect women in order to reduce the country’s high femicide rate. Dominguez Brito said that this should be a permanent campaign to stop violence against women. He said that men could express their masculinity without resorting to physical or emotional violence towards women.
