Road resurfacing for Monte Plata

The Minister for Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo says that work has started on paving more than 60 kilometers of roads in Monte Plata province, at a cost of more than RD$1 billion.

He said that the road improvement program was being carried out on the instructions of President Danilo Medina in the rural areas that make up 40% of the province including Bayaguana, Las Tres Sabanas, Santa Cruz, Monte Plata, Luisa Prieta, La Luisa Blanca, El Bosque, Cruz Morillo, Done, Pueblo Nuevo, Las Mercedes and El Salado.

There will also be road improvements in urban areas in Bayaguana and Monte Plata, including the sidewalks.

The work will start in the towns of Bayaguana and Monte Plata with the paving of around 16 kilometers of roads, and the local authorities will be responsible for the sidewalks. Gonzalo Castillo urged the mayors and provincial authorities to ensure that the work was carried out properly, and asked the engineers and contractors to make sure the they did a good quality job with the asphalt, ensuring adequate drainage so that the resurfacing work lasted and didn’t need redoing in a couple of years.

He went on to say that if the government invested in paving the roads in the province every year, by the time this period of government was over the roads in Monte Plata province would be almost totally paved.
