The Dominican and US authorities have announced the dismantling of a network with supposed ties to the violent Mexican Los Zetas cartel said to smuggle people to the United States. According to the National Department of Investigations (DNI) the members of the ring had insiders at the Las Americas International Airport Migration Department, named as Army Sergeant Major Rossys A. Medina Tavarez and Migration inspector Wagner Bienvenido Manon Alcala, accused of being in the pay of the international network, as reported in Diario Libre. The network sold forged papers to the would-be emigrants for US$15,000.
The arrests were made when the pair was caught escorting Dominican Andres Pena Hernandez, who was bound for Guadalajara, Mexico with forged documents.
