Recycling program for Colonial City

Santo Domingo Mayor Roberto Salcedo has announced the start of a recycling project in the Colonial City. He said “Recycling for a Better Life” seeks to educate residents and businesses in the old city in the adequate management of waste and recycling, as reported in 7dias.com.do

The project, which has European Union support and funding, will contribute to cleanliness in the historic old town.

“With this project we seek to contribute to improve the quality of living of city residents, through a system of sustainable management of urban solid waste,” said Salcedo. He said that the program includes a communications plan to educate and encourage local residents to act for the benefit of the area.

The first phase begins with the Santa Barbara sector to the north on Monday. Neighborhood associations, teachers and residents in the barrio will be trained and different colored bags will be distributed for educating in recycling.
