Medina calls for patience

In his address to the nation last night, Tuesday 27 November, President Danilo Medina acknowledged that citizens, especially the young, have more than sufficient reasons for not trusting politicians in general, while asking for “a little patience” in order to earn their trust through deeds. The speech, which was broadcast on radio and television, gave an account of his administration’s achievements in the first 100 days of his term. The President said that in a little over three months few governments have been able to demonstrate a list of promises fulfilled as long as the one he presented in his speech. He called on the people not to doubt his willingness to take the country forward, with firmness, honestly and justice, although there are a lot of deficiencies.

“The same as you, a father or mother of a family, when you cannot do all that you wish for your family, with the speed that the family needs, the government also needs time and support in order to do all that it wants and all that the people desire and need,” stated Medina. And then he asked his audience to look to the future with hope and at the present without vengeance, and he called on them not to waste time throwing stones back, and to change “these stones into bricks, so that they can be used to build a great future for our people.”
