Nanny says not guilty

After being formally charged by the Manhattan Public prosecutor, Dominican Yoselyn Ortega declared that she is innocent of the murder of two children in her care, six-year old Lucia and two-year old Leo Krim, on October 25 in New York City.

The nanny herself was severely injured in her neck, supposedly self-inflicted, after allegedly murdering the children in a bathroom in their home in Manhattan.

She was charged in the hospital, handcuffed to her bed and appeared weak but alert. She did not speak during the ten-minute hearing but her lawyer Valerie Van Leer-Greenberg, considered one of the boldest lawyers on the east coast, said that she was innocent.

The judge in the case, Lewis Stone, has ordered a psychiatric examination for Ortega to establish whether she is able to be tried until which time she will be either in hospital or jail without bail.
