President Danilo Medina hosted the chiefs of Police from 20 countries who are in Santo Domingo for the V Summit of Communities of Police of the Americas (Ameripol) at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Thursday 29 November. The summit is being held to evaluate and design strategies to fight organized crime and terrorism.
Speaking at the event, Major General Jose Leon Riano of Colombia, the new president of the organization, confirmed the commitment to fight illegal trafficking of arms, vehicles and people, drugs and asset laundering. He highlighted the importance of regional commitment to cooperate and exchange information to identity and stop criminal groups operating in the hemisphere.
