Early this morning, Friday 30 November, the National Police foiled an attempted robbery at Bondelic Bakery on Av. Sarasota, in Bella Vista in Santo Domingo. As reported in El Caribe, business owner Deisyi Velazco said that six heavily armed men entered the bakery, disarmed the watchmen and searched the shop.
She said her husband and son were working in the back and heard the noise and took cover and called the Police that acted fast. As reported, two of the suspected robbers identified only as Manolito and Melvin were killed, and another four were arrested. The Police confiscated two guns and two vehicles, as well as metal cutting tools. The arrested men were named as a former member of the military Higinio Manuel Feliz Rosado, Ramon Vargas de la Cruz (alias El Taxista), Enmanuel de Jesus Duarte Vargas (Colita), and Felipe Monegro (El Viejito). The police said that they were known members of a dangerous gang that was being followed by the Police on suspicion of similar robberies.
