Pitcher Joel Carreno to have surgery

Pitcher Joel Carreno, who was hit in the face on Saturday night 2 December by a line drive off the bat of Erick Almonte of the Aguilas Cibaenas, will undergo surgery at the Centro de Telemedicina Avanzada (Cedimat) in Santo Domingo. According to the Escogido team doctor, the pitcher suffered a fracture of the zygomatic arch on the right side below the eye (the arch of bone that extends along the front or side of the skull beneath the orbit and that is formed by the union of the temporal process of the zygomatic bone in front with the zygomatic process of the temporal bone behind). The doctors have to wait for the swelling to go down before they can operate. Fortunately, the right eye is intact and the young man has his vision, and is expected to return to his profession within a couple of months.
