According to reports, the Police are investigating the death of one of two thieves at the hands of an unidentified bystander. On Monday evening, 3 December, Dr. Maria Marmolejos, a cardiologist, was held up as she came home from work and her purse containing around RD$20,000, her credit cards and other documents, was stolen. As the thieves tried to make their getaway on a motorcycle, a person in a vehicle shot and hit one of them.
Listin Diario says that the motorcycle driver, after seeing that his companion was wounded, pushed him off the bike and kept going with the woman’s belongings. A 9mm pistol was found on the body and the police are running ballistic tests to see whether it was used in other crimes.
In El Caribe, the victim, Dr. Marmolejos, is quoted as saying that the man who shot the thief was “her angel.”
