According to the director of the National Council for HIV/AIDS (Conavisida), Victor Terrero, 6% of the babies born next year will be born with HIV.
He said that this is based on the projection that around 1,616 women with the virus will give birth in 2013, which led them to launch the campaign, “No more children to be born with HIV”.
Terrero was speaking to the Health and Gender Committee at the Chamber of Deputies and said that they expected that 25,230 women would have the HIV virus in 2013, and was concerned at how it had spread more to women recently. He also said that approximately 721 women could die from AIDS next year.
