More in favor of new rules for motorcycles

The director of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET), Juan Geronimo Brown, says he agrees with Vice President Margarita Cedeno’s proposal that AMET should organize and regularize motorcyclists in the country. Via her Twitter account Cedeno said that AMET should not allow more than two people on a motorbike, unless they were motorbike taxis, which should be identified as such.

General Brown said that this proposal was already contained in AMET’s work plan for regularization and control of traffic in the country. As part of the new rules, motorbike taxi drivers will wear reflective vests with a different color for each municipality. He added that AMET had held meetings with motorbike taxi organizations and had reached an agreement focusing on three areas: raising awareness, training and control.

He said that AMET also sought to control and organize taxis as they created chaos on the roads as well.

Diario Libre has campaigned for many years for a ban on two people on a motorbike given the high number of crimes that are carried out by two men on a motorcycle.
