New Heroic Resistance day

The Senate has approved a proposal to move the remains of Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamano Deno to the National Pantheon on the grounds that he was a national hero and President of the Republic.

The idea was proposed by Senators Eddy Mateo Vasquez and Felix Nova, who said the man known as the “April Colonel” was an example of patriotism and worked for the best interests of the country as leader of the 1965 Revolution and was declared a National Hero on June 11 1999.

The Senate also approved that January 12 each year should become “The Day of Heroic Resistance” in order to honor the men and women who fought for a fairer society, like the “Palmeros” who defended national sovereignty following the landing of US marines and OAS troops in 1965.
