The Santo Domingo municipality is putting the finishing touches on the renovation of the former National Conservatory Park. The park and its 12,000 square meters of grounds had been trampled and damaged year after year during the celebrations of the annual National Book Fair, but now since the exhibition moved to the grounds of the Plaza de la Cultura, the city is investing millions in its restoration. Mayor Roberto Salcedo is renaming it the Ibero-American Park and will be inaugurating the completion of the first phase of works on Monday, 10 December. Salcedo says the inner roads have been paved, there is a new gym area, the grass has been restored and security cameras have been installed for the safety of visitors. A new feature of the park is an iguana park. National Zoo staff members are helping the city employees to look after the endangered species.
