Embassies asked for names to back up rumors

The Armed Forces Minister, Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez, is challenging the embassies of the United States and Spain to name the military officials they believe to be linked to criminal activities like corruption and drug dealing.

In an interview on the Digital 15 A Diario show yesterday, Monday 10 December, Pared Perez said that the US Embassy had never given them such a list. He said that there have been many rumors over the last few years that have been detrimental to the Armed Forces and the Police, but the important thing was to have names.

He went on the say that a minority of officials was involved in crime, but that 99% carried out their duties responsibly.
