Medina announces 10 projects for Santiago

Yesterday, Thursday 13 December, President Danilo Medina announced the construction of ten public works projects described as a priority for the city of Santiago. The announcement came after a two-hour meeting with business leaders and representatives of other institutions at the city’s PUCMM University.

The projects include a water supply system for the Cienfuegos barrio, the completion of the Northern Beltway, the Central Park located at the old Cibao Airport site and an ecological corridor in the community of Pontezuela.

Medina also announced an overpass on the Estrella Sadhala Avenue at the corner of Republica de Argentina Avenue, another at the corner of Bartolome Colon Avenue and another at the corner of Padre de Las Casas Avenue.

Another overpass will be built on the Estrella Sadhala Avenue and the Southern Beltway, the Duarte Highway will be widened, and the first elevated section of the Estrella Sadhala at 27 de Febrero Avenue will be repaired.

Speaking after the meeting, PUCMM rector Monsignor Agripino Nunez Collado said that all of the projects were agreed upon with the representative sectors of the province.

“These projects will transform the urban and ecological aspects of Santiago and will improve traffic flow all over the city,” said Nunez Collado.

The President arrived at the PUCMM in the morning accompanied by Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo, Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito, Interior and Police Minister Ramon Fadul, and the director of the Economic Cafeterias, Ramon Rodriguez.

The business sector representatives who attended the meeting included Felix Garcia Castellanos, Manuel Estrella, Micalo Bermudez, Priamo Rodriguez Castillo, Carlos Fuente, Miguel ‘Miky’ Lama, Fernando Capellan and Jose Clase.

Also present were Mayor Gilberto Serulle, Northern Region Industrial Association (AIREN) president Lina Garcia, Santiago Development Association (APEDI) president Henrick Kelner, and Maria Victoria Menicucci from the Chamber of Commerce and Production.
