Police tie three killed in VA to robbery

The National Police have clarified some details in the case of three men found dead in Villa Altagracia earlier this week. In contrast with initial reports, the man who rented the SUV where two of the bodies were found, Wilmerson Arinel Bueno Jimenez, was not one of the deceased. Police spokesman General Maximo Baez Aybar said that the three men belonged to a gang of criminals linked to a recent attempt to rob the Bondelic Bakery in Santo Domingo. Baez Aybar identified the deceased as Manolo Bocio Montero, Efrain de la Rosa and Francis Roche Pineda, who was the brother of former sergeant Kiko Roche Pineda, who was convicted in the infamous Paya drugs case. Baez said that on 9 July 2011, the police seized several firearms from the gang as well as some drugs in the Ensanche Ozama. He added that the police investigating team was working on the assumption that there was a falling out among gang members.
