A school built to serve 10,000 students has received just 780 applications for the first class. According to Listin Diario some 300 students took the entrance exam for the Higher Technical Community Institute in San Luis, an attempt by the Leonel Fernandez administration to imitate the United States Community College system. In view of the few students who have requested admittance, the Institute has extended the registration period until 8 January 2013, according to Victor Hugo De Lancer, the rector of the new school.
