Dominicans arriving home but luggage stays behind

More than 100,000 Dominican and overseas passengers have arrived at Las Americas airport in the last two weeks, but several have complained about the time it is taking for their luggage to arrive. Some passengers say their luggage was left behind.

According to the Dominican airports concessionary, Aerodom, around 285,000 passengers are expected, mostly Dominicans returning home for Christmas and up to 115 flights are arriving every day, most from the United States and Puerto Rico.

However, although the arriving passengers are taking full advantage of the tax exemption on goods up to US$3,000 for returning Dominicans, the airlines appear to be having difficulties transporting their luggage, which is causing stress and consternation for passengers on arrival at Las Americas airport.
