Not to be missed is the 17th Christmas Concert tradition to take place again at the Santo Domingo Cathedral at 8pm. The concert is televised and starts promptly. To get seats if you are not one of the privileged VIPs for whom seats up front are reserved, be there no latter than 7pm for a seat inside the church. Expect a long queue into the church. This is one of the most popular events. The Cathedral is air-conditioned for the audience’s comfort. Giant screens show the concert to those not getting a seat inside.
The Cathedral Choir directed by Professor Jose E. Delmonte Peguero is accompanied by members of the National Symphony Orchestra. On the 2012 program, this year is Wolfgang A Mozart’s Coronation Mass K317, “Merengue de Navidad”, by Hector Martinez Cabruna, and the Christmas carol “Navidad de la esperanza” by choir director Jose Delmonte with orchestra arrangements by maestro Rafael Solano, in addition to a combination of traditional international and Dominican Christmas songs.
