The thermometer in Jarabacoa was in the high 50s and low 60s (15 and 16 degrees Centigrade) over the weekend, making the New Year cool and comfortable. In Santo Domingo, the temperatures were in the low 70s, also making for a wonderful holiday. One result, according to El Nuevo Diario, was that people were dressing more formally, with jackets and ties. The cooler weather is the result of a frontal system located over the country that will bring light rains in the north, northeast, southeast and the central mountains. Winds will be from the northeast.
