Hospital to be torn down and rebuilt

Minister of Public Health Freddy Hidalgo told Listin Diario reporters that after serving the public for 60 years, the Luis Eduardo Aybar Hospital in Santo Domingo is to be demolished and rebuilt by the government. Two buildings will be constructed: a maternity hospital and a general hospital, with seven stories and two underground parking levels.

The nation’s leading burn unit now operating at the hospital will be transferred to the Ney Arias Lora Hospital where the current 10-bed facility will be doubled in size to accommodate the flow of patients who would normally use the Aybar burn facilities.

Recently the government also announced a RD$4.5 billion budget for rebuilding the Aybar and Cabral y Baez hospitals in Santo Domingo and Santiago.
