Haitian fishermen arrested

The Dominican Navy has arrested 44 Haitian fishermen who were illegally fishing in the territorial waters of the Dominican Republic, on the north coast. The fishermen were arrested off Manzanillo, in the border province of Montecristi, which is an environmentally protected area where fishing is prohibited. 10 boats were seized during the operation and the Haitian nationals were handed over to the Dominican migration authorities in Dajabon.

According to official sources, over the last four months 128 Haitians have been arrested for illegal fishing in DR territorial waters and at least 40 boats have been seized.
