New wastewater plant in San Pedro de Macoris

Cemex has announced an investment of RD$80 million (US$2 million) in a wastewater treatment plant for its San Pedro de Macoris cement works as well as a continuous emissions monitoring system for its kiln stack.

Cemex reported that it continues to make progress in reducing emissions and controlling all production processes through its method of measuring the carbon footprint based on international standards and the Basel Accords. Based on the Basel Accords, the company stated that its carbon emissions per ton of cement have fallen by 9.36%, bringing the firm closer to its 2015 target of a 10% reduction against the 2006 level.
