Caamano to be moved to National Pantheon

The Chamber of Deputies has approved the plan to instruct the Executive Branch to take the remains of Colonel Francisco Alberto Caamano Deno to the National Pantheon as a National Hero and former President of the Republic.

The request had been submitted to the Chamber by the Culture Commission, on the authority of the Senator for Monsenor Nouel province, Felix Nova and was approved unanimously.

The plan proposes to create a commission comprising the Culture Minister, the Commission of Historical Events, and the President of the Dominican History Academy who will carry out the transfer of the body.

The Chamber also agreed that the 12 January each year be known as “The Day of Heroic Resistance” in honor of the four young men known as Los Palmeros who were killed on that date in 1972 in a cave on the Las Americas highway, when they fought with troops from the military and national police.

Senate President Reinaldo Pared Perez made the proposal, saying that that these men had dedicated their lives to fight patriotic and social battles on behalf of the Dominican people following the execution of the dictator, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina.
