EPA rules trade between Haiti and DR

The DR is seeking a free trade agreement with Haiti, but in the meantime, Osmar Benitez, advisor to the Executive Branch and executive vice president of the Dominican Agribusiness Board (JAD) said that the Dominican Republic’s trade relations with Haiti were defined by the European Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). Within the framework of that agreement, Dominican products pay taxes, which are now being gradually reduced. Benitez said that as agriculture develops in Haiti, it is more cost-effective to import farm products from the Dominican Republic such as poultry, eggs, yoghurt, pasta, flour, seasoning, milk and cheese, as reported in Hoy. Haiti is Dominican Republic’s second largest export market.
