The Eighth Penal Court of the National District has ordered Geronimo Sierra Trinidad to spend three months in preventive custody after being accused of stealing electricity. El Nuevo Diario says that the defendant was arraigned on charges after electricity distribution company EdeSur filed several complaints. According to the request by the Special Prosecutor for Electricity, Sierra Trinidad has to pay some RD$300,000 for the electricity that was consumed and court costs of some RD$200,000. According to Judge Moises Ferrer, Sierra Trinidad is a repeat offender who has already been convicted of energy theft once before. There is also another complaint on file and awaiting trial.
