During an event attended by foreign representatives, some 220 foreign (mostly Haitian) workers were provided with carnets as part of the new legalization program being implemented by the Directorate General of Migration. According to El Nuevo Diario, Immigration Director Jose Ricardo Taveras said that his department had worked with the International Migration Organization, the ministries of the Interior and Police, Agriculture, and Labor in its work towards providing carnets to temporary workers who have been working in the construction and farm sectors for some time. As long as the workers comply with the requirements of the law, they will be eligible to participate in the Social Security System.
