A win by the Aguilas Cibaenas over the Estrellas Orientales in San Pedro de Macoris last night, Wednesday 16 January has secured the Santiago team’s place in the Dominican Winter Baseball Championship finals. The Aguilas have notched up eleven wins and six losses in this season. Meanwhile, Santo Domingo team and reigning champions Leones del Escogido beat La Romana’s Toros del Este for their slot in the final.
The final series between the Aguilas and Leones starts tomorrow, Friday 18 January in the Estadio Cibao in Santiago. The Leones will be playing in their third final in four years and the Aguilas for the second consecutive year. El Caribe reports that it is the twelfth time that both teams have made the finals, with the Santiago team having a slight edge with six victories to the Leones’ five. Last time was last year when the Leones won. The Aguilas have played in 35 finals, with 20 wins. The Leones have played in 26, with 14 wins.
