Listin Diario reports that National District judge Jose Alejandro Vargas has postponed the hearing against rap singer Manuel Varet Martes (Vakero), accused of violence against his partner Martha Heredia.
He made the decision after Heredia’s lawyer, Felix Portes, sent his apologies to the court that he would be unable to be present as he was at the parole hearing of another of his clients, Sobeida Felix Morel, in San Cristobal.
Leaving the courtroom, Heredia, surrounded by more than six police officers and a Colonel said that she maintained her position that Vakero had attacked her and that she would not go back on her statement. She refused to comment on statements from his former partners, several of whom have supported him and refuted the fact he was aggressive and said she did not wish to talk about them.
Vakero was taken from court back to the holding cells at the Palace of Justice in Ciudad Nueva to await his next appearance when the Public Prosecution office will ask for him to be remanded in jail.
