The National Police has set up a commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the suspected criminal known as ‘Gilbert’, Junior Javier Minaya German, and the injuries suffered by two of his associates, 18-year old Moises Acosta and Wester de la Rosa Soler. The event took place in Satellite City in Hato Nuevo during a supposed gunfight between the suspects and police officers with a warrant for his arrest.
The commission will include General Frener Bello Arias, Inspector General of the National Police and Colonel Jose Antonio Ceballos, Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations.
The preliminary report said that Gilbert died due to multiple gunshot wounds in several parts of his body, fired by police officers who claim they were under fire themselves from a house on kilometer 22 of the Duarte Highway. However, none of the agents were injured in the alleged gun battle.
The police said that Gilbert and his two accomplices were in possession of two firearms, some marijuana and a white Toyota Camry car, which was reportedly carjacked by Gilbert on Sunday, 13 January, leading to his identification by the victim of the theft.
The investigation is ongoing and will also involve analyzing the weapons to see if they can be linked to other crimes and if they show evidence of having been used at the shootout, as reported in Listin Diario.
